Radical Patience
How can you maintain a vision, a dream, an ambition through, seemingly, endless delays and frustrations that could deter you from achieving your desired goal?
I am sure that each of us has experienced those moments when all the energy we have given to procuring an outcome has fallen by the wayside and we are left with an emptiness that affects how we take the next step. Let’s take a look at some of the ways we cope at that time.
How essential to your well-being is the thrust that has motivated you to begin in the first place? If it is very important, then do you have or can you create the means to accomplish the rigors of reaching completion?
The mightiest strength in our ability to keep moving forward is, in my experience, developing the attribute of Patience. I think I expected life to give me all my wishes immediately upon the sighting of my evening star. In many ways it did, but I had to learn that the work involved was way beyond my current capabilities. Or so I thought.
They needed to be developed through learning the tools of the chosen endeavor, practice and more practice, and the drive to keep on going even in the face of declared “impossibility”. Doors slammed in my face, not fitting into the usual norms, lack of funding, not being taken seriously. All these, and more, made me buckle down and learn what I needed to overcome the obstacles that thwarted my ambitions.
Every step along the way required, what I call, Radical Patience. As the work stretched on into decades, meeting challenges and discouragements, I knew my mission would be fulfilled in God’s Timing, no sooner, no later. That surrender was not easy much of the time. It was, and is, the commitment to bring spiritually transformational entertainment to a world inundated with negative and violent messages.
I was told by a producer, when I was just starting out at film festivals that a movie genre without sex or violence would not sell. I said to him that I would have to create a new genre. Well, as the years passed and the industry evolved, that disparaging remark has proved to false.
After taking an early draft to the head of the film department at UCLA, Lou Stumann, he said, “It is genius but the world isn’t ready for it”. I do believe that it is at this time.
I believe that the world is hungry for inspirational movies. Movies that enlighten and bring joy to audiences around the globe. Such a movie is my multi-award winning animated/live-action musical, The MicroCosmic Cartoon Show. We are in development with Price Productions, ltd out of LA. Our thrust at this time is attaching the director, the musical director, the cast and the crew.
It has been a long slow journey that has taught me that Patience is essential for any project, small or immense. Raising a family requires that kind of fortitude. Learning a craft, a business, or a sport becomes the testing ground for inner resilience. The payoff is the stretch that you never knew you had in you until you did.
“May the Force be with you”.
